Common questions
How the cheaper routings work, and what you take on by booking one.
What is a positioning flight?
A cheap short flight to a different departure airport, booked separately, because the long flight is far cheaper from there. Sydney to Kuala Lumpur, then Kuala Lumpur to Munich, can cost less than the direct Sydney to Munich fare.
Are these two separate tickets?
On a split-ticket result, yes. That is the whole saving and the whole risk: bags may need collecting and rechecking, and if the first flight is late the second airline owes you nothing. Every split says so on the card, with the connection time.
Are cash prices live?
Yes. Fares are fetched from airline and agency sources when you search, so results fill in over a few seconds instead of appearing all at once. A separate-ticket result priced more than a minute ago says how long ago. The price is checked again before you book through Kaviqa, and Kiwi or the airline shows its own final price before you pay.
How fresh are Points results?
Points shows reward seats collected from Qantas's Flight Reward Finder and Virgin Australia's reward calendar, not a live check with the airline. Each result shows when it was last seen, and nothing last seen more than 7 days ago is shown. Reward seats can go at any time, so confirm with the airline before you book.
Do you sell the tickets?
Sometimes. Where Kaviqa booking is available for a fare, you can pay through Kaviqa (via Stripe), acting as your booking agent, and the ticket itself is issued by the airline through Duffel, Kaviqa's flight-booking platform. Kaviqa never sees your full card number. It isn't available for every fare, and can be unavailable altogether; when it is, we send you to Kiwi or the airline's own site to pay there instead, and that booking is between you and them.
Can you book the whole trip for me?
Yes, as a separate personal service. A real person plans your trip around your preferences, writes you a personal trip report and books it together with you, and you pay the airlines directly. A$499 per trip. One price for the whole booking, however many travellers. No extra Kaviqa fees. Sending a request and a short intro call are free. To start, you pay A$499 per trip; we then build your personal trip report and book it together with you. You get a full refund if we can't find a trip that matches your brief (route, dates, cabin and budget), if you cancel before your report is delivered, or if something goes wrong on our side and we can't complete the booking. Once your report is delivered and your trip is booked, the fee is non-refundable.
I booked through Kaviqa — who do I ask about cancelling or a refund?
Kaviqa. Contact support with your booking details and Kaviqa will handle cancellation and any refund with the airline through Duffel. Whether it's free, partly refundable, or non-refundable depends on the fare you bought, not on Kaviqa. If you were instead sent to Kiwi or an airline to book, they hold that booking and handle its cancellation or refund directly.
What if the normal flight is already the best?
Then we say so. A search that finds nothing better than the obvious fare is a useful answer, not a failed one.
What is the economy short leg option?
On a split, it prices the shorter booking in economy and keeps your chosen cabin on the long one, which is usually where most of the saving is. It is off unless you turn it on, because it changes what you actually fly.
Which routes does this work on?
Best on long, expensive premium-cabin routes, where the gap between the obvious fare and a better routing is large enough to be worth the extra booking. On short or already-cheap routes the normal fare usually wins, and we will tell you that.
