Cathay Pacific Aria Suite from Australia: which flights

Cathay Pacific's Aria Suite is the airline's new business class, with a sliding door, on retrofitted Boeing 777-300ERs. It is not on every Hong Kong flight from Australia, and Perth is scheduled to get it from 26 October 2026. This is where it flies and how to check before you pay.

What the Aria Suite is

Aria Suite is Cathay Pacific's newer business class, fitted to its Boeing 777-300ERs as they are retrofitted. It is a 1-2-1 reverse-herringbone layout, so every passenger has direct aisle access, and it adds what the older Cathay business seat lacks: a sliding privacy door. Cathay lists wireless charging, soft LED lighting, Bluetooth audio and a 24-inch 4K screen, the biggest screen Cathay has fitted in business class.

The retrofitted 777-300ER seats 361: 45 in business, 48 in a new premium economy cabin and 268 in economy. That is five more business seats than the previous three-class 777 had, according to Flight Hacks. Cathay's A350-900 on the same routes has fewer business seats, around 38, and does not have the Aria product.

Where it flies from Australia

The Aria Suite is only on selected Hong Kong flights, not on whole routes. That is the single most important thing to know, because a booking labelled "Cathay business class" does not tell you which seat you will get.

Cathay Pacific Aria Suite on Australian routes, as reported to October 2026

Perth is the news. From 26 October 2026, Cathay schedules a retrofitted 777-300ER on CX171 from Hong Kong and CX140 back, daily and subject to operational changes, until 27 March 2027. Cathay describes Perth as its first Australian route, and it had been flown by a mix of A350-900s and older 777-300ERs. Cathay has not said what happens from 28 March 2027, so a winter booking is safe to plan around and a northern-summer one is not.

How to check your flight has it

The seat map is the most reliable test. Aircraft type on a booking page can mislead, but the cabin layout cannot.

  • Count the business seats. A retrofitted 777 with Aria shows 45 business seats in a 1-2-1 layout and 48 premium economy seats. An A350-900 shows around 38 business seats.
  • Count the premium economy seats too. The retrofitted 777 has 48, in a 2-4-2 layout; an A350-900 on the same route shows around 28.
  • Check each leg. Aria is a feature of one aircraft on one sector. If you connect in Hong Kong for Europe, the onward flight may have a different seat.
  • Look again after any schedule change. An equipment swap is how most people end up on the older seat.

How fast the rollout is moving

Cathay is converting its 777-300ER fleet in stages. One tracking site reported roughly 17 to 18 of the 35 aircraft converted by mid-2026, with two-thirds of the fleet targeted for the end of 2026 and the whole fleet by the end of 2027. That tracker is a secondary source, so treat the numbers as approximate. If the rollout keeps its pace, more flights should have the Aria Suite with each schedule.

The same report said there is no announced plan to fit the Aria Suite to the A350. If that holds, the Cathay A350 flights from Australia will remain on the older seat even as the 777s improve, so the choice of aircraft matters more on Cathay than on most airlines.

Is it worth booking for?

A door and a larger screen are real changes. The better question is what you are comparing it with. Our guide to business class seats compared sets the main designs side by side. On a Hong Kong routing, the usual competitors are Singapore and the Gulf carriers, and Hong Kong is one of the hubs we price when we build a split fare in our guide to Sydney to London in business class.

One practical point for oneworld points collectors: Cathay business class can be booked with Qantas Points as well as Asia Miles, according to Flight Hacks, but only when the retrofitted aircraft is showing on your date. If you are redeeming points specifically for the Aria Suite, the same check applies as for a cash fare.

Common questions

Does Cathay Pacific have the Aria Suite from Perth?
Yes, it is scheduled from 26 October 2026 to 27 March 2027, on CX171 from Hong Kong and CX140 back to Hong Kong. The other Perth flights, CX143 and CX144, use whichever aircraft is rostered, so they may not have it. Cathay has not said what happens after March 2027.
Which Cathay Pacific planes have the Aria Suite?
Retrofitted Boeing 777-300ERs. A retrofitted aircraft has 45 business seats in a 1-2-1 layout. Cathay has not announced the Aria Suite for its A350s as far as we can find, so those keep the older business seat.
Is the Aria Suite on Cathay flights from Sydney and Melbourne?
On selected flights. Sydney has had retrofitted 777s on some flights since March 2025, and Melbourne has had them on selected flights since August 2025. Check the flight number and date, because the aircraft changes and not every flight on the route has it.
How do I know which seat I will get on Cathay?
Look at the seat map. A retrofitted 777 shows 45 business seats and 48 premium economy seats, while an A350-900 shows around 38 business seats. Check when you book and again before you fly, since aircraft swaps are common.
Does the Aria Suite have a door?
Yes. It has a sliding privacy door, direct aisle access from every seat, wireless charging and a 24-inch 4K screen. That is the main difference from Cathay's older business class.
